Zoroastrian Prayer - The Ushahen Gah

English Translation By Manek Bhujwala

Praise be to Daadaar Hormuzd ! Ashem Vohu (3).

(I) profess to be a worshipper of Hormuzd, follower of the religion proclaimed by Prophet Zarathushtra, avoider of (the path of) evil, (and) follower of the path of Hormuzd. In the righteous and pure time of Ushahen, during which the (work of) the head of household and asking for (good) wishes (is going on), in order to please (Daadaar Hormuzd) with praiseful worship of the holy, righteous, victorious, and world -progress creating Sarosh (Yazad), most truthful Rashne (Yazad), and world progress-creating and world-prosperity creating Astad (Yazad), to admire (them), may Zotee (officiating/senior priest) reveal the meanings of Yatha Ahu Vairyo (prayer words). May (Raspee) (who is) righteous and knowledgeable, reveal the meanings of 'Athaa ratush Ashaat Chit Hacha' (prayer words).

We praise the Lord of righteousness, Asho Hormuzd, we praise the Lord of righteousness, Asho Zarathushtra, we praise the Farohar of Asho Zarathushtra, we praise the Asho Ameshaspands, we pray to the Farohars of the righteous, brave, and progress creating people; we praise the highest ranking leader among the leaders of the material and spiritual worlds. We praise the most helpful timely prayer of the most helpful yazad among yazads, and the most worthy and helpful leader among righteous leaders.

We praise the leader of righteousness Asho Ushahen; we praise the beautiful Bamdad; we praise the light of the morning, like bright, shining horses, liked by people, and liked by strong men, which (light) makes (life) easier and related to the household; we praise the brightness and morning light (like) quick horses which is spread over the seven continents of the world. We praise this Bamdad. We remember the Lord of righteousness, Asho Hormuzd. We remember Bahman (Ameshaspand); we remember Ardibehesht (Ameshaspand); we remember Shahrever (Ameshaspand); we remember the good Asfandarmad (Ameshaspand).

We praise the Ratu (leader) of righteousness, Asho Berejya, with blessings of righteousness, blessings of the good Mazdayasni religion, to praise Nmanya Ratu (head of the household) and to sing his virtues.

We admire the leader of righteousness, Asho Nmanya (head of the household).

We remember Asho Sarosh (Yazad) the leader of righteousness, who is of good appearance, victorious, and world -progress creating and holy. We remember the most truthful Rashne (Yazad); we remember the most truthful Rashne (Yazad), and world progress-creating and world-prosperity creating Astad (Yazad).

We praise you righteous leader, Fire, created by Hormuzd and purifier of all things; we praise this Barsom (sacred twigs) which is with Zohr (offering) and Aeevyaaonghan, spread with righteousness and the righteous leader, we praise the source of waters; we praise (the fire named) Neryosangh; we remember the strong Daami Upaman (named) yazad; we remember the souls of the departed that have Farohars of the righteous (people). We remember the noble leader (Him who is) Hormuzd, Who (Hormuzd) is most advanced in righteousness and Who is most helpful in righteousness; we praise all the words of (Prophet) Zarathushtra, and we praise all good deeds that were performed and that will be performed in future.

I admire the worship, fame, skill, and strenght of the holy, righteous, victorious, and world -progress creating Sarosh (Yazad), most truthful Rashne (Yazad), and world progress-creating and world-prosperity creating Astad (Yazad), Ashem Vohu 1.
